The purpose of this contribution is to give an overview of the role of System Dynamics (SD) in the context of the evolution of the systems movement. This is necessary because SD is often erroneously taken as the systems approach as such, not as part of it. It is also requisite to show that the processes of evolution of both SD in particular and the Systems Movement as a whole are intimately linked and intertwined. Finally, in view of the purpose of the paper the actual and potential relationships between SD and the other strands of the systems movement are worked out. This way, complementarities and synergies are identified.
This contribution applies the latest theory of business strategy to
the specific requirements of the tourist sector. The article an
alyzes the principal purpose of strategic management -
the development and the enhancement of sustained earnings poten
tials, as the prerequisite of long-term business success. Further,
it identifies the determinants of earnings potentials, namely
market position, experience. customer problem, problem solu
tions and other factors which determine competitiveness. The
key parameters of strategic business management and their
interrelationships are addressed. We will show that some con
cepts, already weil established in industrial strategy, are also
relevant to tourism. Of course, not all factors relating in tourism
can be fully covered here; however, the theoretical explanations
will be supplemented by practical examples from the
tourism and leisure sectors.
The issue of ecological sustainability has been addressed in various contexts - local, regional and world-wide. This paper postulates that sustainability can only be achieved if actors at multiple levels cooperate toward the vision of a sustainable world. For this purpose, the structure of a model is presented, which shows how the efforts for sustainability can be organized in a more powerful way. This presentation should also help decision-makers understand that pertinent frameworks are needed to enable actors at each level, from individual to global.
