Assessing the impact of federal funding to Swiss Universities: a new performance audit concept

Opportunities and risks must undergo careful assessments in order to survive in the world of globalization. This applies not only to the private but also to the public sector, including governmental, political and educational institutions. New control mechanisms must be developed and implemented to measure and monitor the performance of political programs. These tools primarily...

The impact of cost based pricing rules on capacity planning under uncertainty

This paper analyzes the efficiency of three simple cost-based pricing heuristics in a twoperiod capacity planning model with uncertain demand. All policies start with full cost introductory prices but differ in second-period pricing. Under “adaptive full-cost pricing”, the firm updates second-period prices on the basis of current demand conditions and full unit costs. Under “wait-and...

An Extension of Mantel (1976) to Incomplete Markets

In the incomplete markets model with numeraire asset and a single consumption good we show that, even with homothetic preferences, on compact sets of prices Continuity, Walras' identity and Homogeneity characterize the properties of market excess demand. This result is proved by an extension of Mantel (1976) to the case of incomplete markets.

The effect of incentive schemes and organizational arrangements on the new product development process

This paper proposes a new model for studying the new product development process in an artificial environment. We show how connectionist models can be used to simulate the adaptive nature of agents' learning exhibiting similar behavior as practically experienced learning curves. We study the impact of incentive schemes (local, hybrid and global) on the new product development...

Correcting for CBC model bias: a hybrid scanner data - conjoint model

This paper proposes a new model for studying the new product development process in an artificial environment. We show how connectionist models can be used to simulate the adaptive nature of agents' learning exhibiting similar behavior as practically experienced learning curves. We study the impact of incentive schemes (local, hybrid and global) on the new product development...

Strategic diversification and capacity utilization

This paper analyzes acquisitions resulting in a product line expansion of a firm. When the firm faces a non-stationary and stochastic demand in both the current and the new product line, switching between the production facilities may give diversification advantages. Switching between production facilities is similar to holding an inventory for both products. A case in the beverages...

A two-countries two-goods model with external economies of scale is presented. Demand develops according to non-linear Engel-curves with phases of expansion and saturation. The economies of scale are exploited by...

A note on the common support problem in applied evaluation studies

Not available in German. This paper advocates the use of a nonparametric bounds analysis to check the robustness of the results of applied evaluation studies to the problem of a lack of common support. The typical responses by researchers of either ignoring it, or obtaining estimates only for the subpopulation within the common support, can both be misleading: Ignoring the problem...
