Fehler und Fallen in der Erkennung und Diagnostik von Risiken

Description:

Stress und kurzfristiges Denken sind Gift für die Wahrnehmung von Risiken. Um diese zu erkennen, ist Weitsicht, langfristiges Denken und ein gewisses Mass an Selbstkritik notwendig.

Strategic competitive advantages and value net organisation: conceptual considerations and organisational recommendations for two- or multi-sided service markets

Does a liberalized postal market need a sector specific regulator?

Description:

For different reasons, most actors in liberalized postal markets call for sector specific regulatory bodies. However those should disappear over time along with an increasingly market-oriented definition of universal services.

Local heroes and superstars - an empirical analysis of star attraction in German soccer

Description:

Recent studies of the demand for sports clearly indicate that stars play an important role in promoting fan interest. However, on theoretical grounds it is controversial if a star’s talent superiority and/or a star’s popularity drive match attendance and hence
increase gate revenues. Using longitudinal match attendance data of all clubs in the first German soccer league in a 9-year period, the authors analyze star attraction of national superstars and of so-called ‘‘local heroes’’ defined as the most valued players of teams without national superstars. The authors find empirical evidence that these groups differ in the way they attract fans: whereas superstars enhance attendance both at home and on the road, the star attraction of local heroes is limited to home games.
In addition, superstars attract fans by outstanding field performances, whereas local heroes facilitate fan support by mere popularity.

Optimization methods and stability of inclusions in Banach Spaces

Description:

Our paper deals with the interrelation of optimization methods and Lipschitz stability of multifunctions in arbitrary Banach spaces. Roughly speaking, we show that linear convergence of several ¯rst order methods and Lipschitz stability mean the same. Particularly, we characterize calmness and the Aubin property by uniformly (with respect to certain starting points) linear convergence of descent methods and approximate projection methods. So we obtain, e.g., solution methods (for solving equations or variational problems) which require calmness only. The relations of these methods to several known basic algorithms are discussed, and errors in the subroutines as well as deformations of the given mappings are permitted. We also recall how such deformations are related to standard algorithms like barrier, penalty or regularization methods in optimization.

Do media consumers really dislike advertising? An empirical assessment of the role of advertising in print media markets

Description:

This paper uses data on German consumer magazines observed between 1992 and 2004 to analyze the extent to which consumers (dis-)like advertising. We estimate logit demand models separately for the six most important magazine segments in terms of circulation. We find little evidence for readers disliking advertising. On the contrary, we show that readers in many magazine segments appreciate advertising.

Readers of Women's magazines, Business and politics magazines as well as Car magazines — market segments where advertisements are relatively more informative — appreciate advertising while advertising is nuisance to readers of Adult magazines, a segment where advertisements are particularly uninformative. Demand for interior design magazines is not well identified. Our logit demand estimates are confirmed by logit demand models with random coefficients and by magazine-specific monopoly demand models.

Journal of Convex Analysis

Description:

The concern of this international mathematical journal is to disseminate theoretical knowledge in the field of Convex Analysis and, at the same time, cultivate and extend its applications. In this sense it publishes research articles touching the areas of Calculus of Variations, Control Theory, Measure Theory, Functional Analysis, Differential Equations, Integral Equations, Optimization and Mathematical Programming,
and Mathematical Economics. Of particular interest are topics related to nonsmooth analysis, generalized differentiability, and set-valued functions.

SIAM Journal on Optimization

Description:

The SIAM Journal on Optimization contains research articles on the theory and practice of optimization. The areas addressed include linear and quadratic programming, convex programming, nonlinear programming, complementarity problems, stochastic optimization, combinatorial optimization, integer programming, and convex, nonsmooth and variational analysis. Contributions may emphasize optimization theory, algorithms, software, computational practice, applications, or the links between these subjects.

Schweizer HR-Barometer 2010: Arbeitsflexibilität und Familie
