Description
As the discussion and development of supply chain management in current publications continues, financial collaboration in the supply chain offers a new perspective about still undiscovered potential. While many authors agree that future competition will take place rather between whole supply chains than between single companies, in practice, the financial flow between supply chain-members (such as suppliers, manufacturers, customers and logistics service providers) on the one hand and banks, financial-service-providers and investors on the other hand is still largely uncoordinated and unexplored. Though theory is lately starting to turn its head towards this new area of research, literature quantitatively or qualitatively exploring the areas and size of impact of financial collaboration and the benefits that can be reaped from it is still rare to find.
By filling-in that gap, this research project aims at removing some of the deficits that exist in contemporary literature. The objective therefore is to uncover the potential that lies within financial collaboration in supply chain management and to show its impact not only on the (shareholder-) value of the collaborating organizations but ultimately also on the competitiveness of the supply chain as a whole. The results of this exploratory research may serve as a starting point for further deep-dives into the topic and also as a basis for experimental and explanatory approaches.
